Carton & Case Flow Rack

Fast, organized order picking. Carton & case flow uses gentle gravity roller beds so cases roll forward to the pick face as product is taken — dense, FIFO pick faces that cut walk time and errors. Langer designs, sells, and installs carton flow across Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania, sized to your carton dimensions and pick rates, with stamped permit drawings, turnkey installation, and 24-hour service.

Dense, Organized FIFO Pick Faces

Carton flow turns a wall of shelving into a high-speed pick line. Cases load at the back of each gently sloped lane and roll to the front as they're picked, so the pick face is always full and the oldest product goes first. Many shallow levels put a large number of SKUs within easy reach, slashing walk and search time and reducing mis-picks. It's ideal for order fulfillment, kitting, and assembly supply — and pairs naturally with pallet flow above for replenishment. Langer engineers the lane widths, slope, and wheel type to your cartons and throughput, then installs it turnkey across Western PA.

What Makes Up Carton Flow

Inclined Roller Beds

Wheel or roller tracks set on a gentle slope so cartons glide forward to the pick face on their own.

Close Shelf Levels

Many shallow levels stacked at ergonomic pick heights present a lot of SKUs in a small footprint.

Automatic FIFO

Load from the back, pick from the front — the oldest cases always present first for clean rotation.

Frames & Lane Dividers

Standard upright frames carry the beds; dividers keep lanes straight and cartons tracking true.

Carton Flow — Common Questions

What is carton flow rack?

Carton flow rack (also called case flow or gravity flow shelving) uses slightly inclined roller or wheel beds so cartons and cases roll forward to the pick face as product is removed. It creates dense, organized FIFO pick faces with the oldest stock always to the front — ideal for piece and case picking and order fulfillment. Langer designs, sells, and installs carton flow across Pittsburgh and Western PA — call 724-898-2000.

How is carton flow different from pallet flow?

Same gravity principle, different scale: pallet flow moves full pallets on heavy-duty lanes, while carton flow moves individual cartons and cases on lighter roller/wheel tracks at pick height. Carton flow is built for hand-picking speed — lots of shallow, closely spaced shelf levels presenting many SKUs at an ergonomic pick face. The two are often combined (pallet flow up top for replenishment, carton flow below for picking).

What are the benefits of carton flow shelving?

Faster picks and fewer errors: product is always presented at the front, SKUs are densely organized, walk and search time drop, and FIFO rotation is automatic. It is a favorite for order fulfillment, kitting, and assembly supply. Langer sizes the lane width, slope, and wheel type to your carton sizes and pick rates.

How much does pallet racking cost?

Pallet racking cost depends on the system type, capacity, height, and number of bays — selective rack is the most economical per position, while high-density systems like push-back and pallet flow cost more but store more in less space. Langer designs to your budget and gives a firm quote. Call 724-898-2000 for pricing on your Western PA project.

What type of pallet racking is best for my warehouse?

The right system depends on your SKU count, pallet volume, and rotation needs: selective rack for direct access to mixed SKUs, drive-in for high-density LIFO, push-back for density with selectivity, pallet flow for FIFO throughput, and cantilever for long loads. Langer designs the layout around how your operation actually runs across Western Pennsylvania.

Can damaged pallet racking be repaired, or does it need to be replaced?

Forklift-damaged rack can usually be repaired rather than fully replaced. Langer provides engineered column repair kits, front-column and sub-frame replacement, and load-beam repair to restore rated capacity, with cooler/freezer engineer stamps available. We offer 24-hour emergency rack repair across Western PA — call 724-898-2000.
