OSHA Requires Forklift Operator Training

OSHA standard 29 CFR 1910.178(l) requires that all powered industrial truck operators be trained and evaluated before operating a forklift. Untrained operators are a leading cause of workplace injuries — and an OSHA compliance liability.

Training must be completed before unsupervised operation, and refresher training is required every 3 years or after any incident, unsafe behavior observation, or equipment/environment change.
